I have a very warm approach, and in our work together my goal is for you to feel seen, understood and accepted as we process through life’s challenges, find a new understanding and create lasting change.

In a nutshell, I do this by using a holistic perspective that incorporates both the body and mind, while addressing systemic influences that affect our lives. This primarily incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Additionally, I utilize mindfulness and somatic techniques.

My work with couples is informed by my training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Approach

Mind

Many of us feel stuck, like there is no hope. The good news is that science shows us that it is never too late to change. Neuroplasticity informs us that our brains are constantly changing and evolving throughout our lifespans. However, we can sometimes block ourselves off from positive brain changes because of deep routed shame, as well as unconscious beliefs that we formed throughout our lifespan that may no longer work for us but are still governing our thoughts, decisions and actions.

From a brain standpoint, in our work together, we are helping you to develop new constructive thoughts and beliefs (aka neural pathways) and working to discover and release those that you find to be no longer serving you. In other words- we work to change your thoughts, and when your thoughts change your life changes.

Body

In addition to the work we are doing with our thoughts, our bodies are equally important to pay attention to. So many of us are stuck in our frontal lobes, as we live in a world of logic and accomplishment and thinking. We know that emotions and memories are stored in our bodies. We also know that neurotransmitters are found in our guts. An important part of our work together is reconnecting you to your body’s sensations, and gaining clarity on the important information that those sensations are cluing you into. When you learn to welcome all emotions and develop the ability to relate with them in a way that elevates you, you will feel energy and movement where before you felt shut down and stuck.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a powerful tool in that it can help us pay attention to what is happening with kindness, compassion and curiosity. Using this in our work together can help us to see what is happening in our thoughts and bodies, and create our ability to choose rather than going about life in a reactive way.

Systems

I recognize that we are born into families, systems, privileges, etc. that affect our lives in every aspect and on every level. These systems are very real, and exploring how you can function best within the systems that affect your life is just as crucial as the individual inner work that we do together.
